Some of you have said you might find some notes on each poem helpful. I have compiled some revision style cards and will post them below:

London

Ozymandias

Storm on the Island

If you find these useful, let me know and I will post more.

An Inspector Calls

This one is for that play about that family who Priestley uses to explore the idea of collective responsibility.

Try this: Note down each theme and find a quote from each character relating to it. You might not find one for each....

Macbeth

This is one of the best Macbeth revision links, and it costs nothing:

Try this: Look at the key quotes- can you work out who said them and explain them to someone?

A Christmas Carol

A superb, colour coded revision link:

Try this: Note down the key themes and a quotation about each of them.

The English Literature Exam

The English Literature content is split over 2 papers:

You have studied:

  • Poetry- The Anthology- Power and Conflict section
  • Drama- An Inspector Calls
  • Shakespeare- Macbeth
  • Prose- A Christmas Carol
You should know all of the poems in the Power and Conflict section and be able to summarise them as well as identify at least 5 language features for each. All of the other texts should be very familiar to you, but if you need more notes, I will add information over the next few weeks.
See below for the breakdown of each paper:

Paper 1: Macbeth and A Christmas Carol

Paper 2: An Inspector Calls; Power and Conflict Poetry and an Unseen poem (a present from the exam board which you will see on the day).

The English Language Exam

See below for information (key points highlighted) for the English Langue exam:

Paper 1 is worth 50% of the over all GCSE:

Paper 2 is also worth 50% of the over all GCSE:

Both exams last for 1 hour and 45 minutes. You will notice that are very similar in terms of structure but have different assessment objectives. It is so important that you know exactly what each question is asking you to do and assessing you for, so that you maximise your time in the exam. More to follow on the Assessment Objectives later on...
