The English Literature Exam

The English Literature content is split over 2 papers:


You have studied:

• Poetry- The Anthology- Power and Conflict section
• Drama- An Inspector Calls
• Shakespeare- Macbeth
• Prose- A Christmas Carol

You should know all of the poems in the Power and Conflict section and be able to summarise them as well as identify at least 5 language features for each. All of the other texts should be very familiar to you, but if you need more notes, I will add information over the next few weeks.

Paper 1: Macbeth and A Christmas Carol

Paper 2: An Inspector Calls; Power and Conflict Poetry and an Unseen poem (a present from the exam board which you will see on the day).

The English Language Exam

 Paper 1 is worth 50% of the over all GCSE:

Paper 2 is also worth 50% of the over all GCSE: 

Both exams last for 1 hour and 45 minutes. You will notice that are very similar in terms of structure but have different assessment objectives. It is so important that you know exactly what each question is asking you to do and assessing you for, so that you maximise your time in the exam.
